Beauty meets technology: The skin care start-up doing things differently
If there’s one thing we feel strongly about when it comes to beauty, it’s that a one-size-fits-all product just doesn’t work.
Sure there might be partners, dads or brothers out there who hold the upsetting belief that they can get away with using an all-in-one body wash, shampoo and face cleanser. However, for us beauty lovers, that’s simply never going to cut it.
We’ve seen skin care brands explore the world of customisation and technology, such as the Clinique iD range or Rationale’s DNArray, which uses DNA testing to create a skin care routine.
Although, up until now, we haven’t seen anything like PROVEN, and not just because of a unique marketing angle, but because scientific research confirms it. Technology meets beauty as this skin care brand focuses on personalisation like we have never seen it before.
Based on over 47 factors including environment, lifestyle and gene expression, PROVEN has created a database with over 20,000 different skin profiles to cater to your specific skin care needs.
Yes, you read that correctly: 20,000 different skin profiles.
That makes the usual 4-5 (dry, oily, sensitive, normal, combination) seem as though they aren’t nearly as targeted as they could be.
In what is being dubbed ‘the future of skincare’, founder Ming Zhao, spoke to forbes.com to discuss how the process of her clean, non-toxic skin care range actually works. “We aren’t just bottling one product to fool the masses. We are utilising science, technology, and hundreds of ingredient combinations to provide specific skincare that actually works for YOU!”
Just scratching the surface of how our lifestyles can impact our varying skin health needs, Zhao explains, “have you ever thought about the fact that living in the mountains may mean you are showering in harder water than someone living near the beach— or that living in a cold climate and using a heater can deeply impact your skin? Details like these can have a considerable effect on ingredients and their ability to be as effective as possible."
So how does it work?
The process is extremely straightforward, only consisting of three products. And the price tag won't break the bank either.
By heading to PROVEN’S website, here, you will then be presented with the option to take their complementary Skin Genome Quiz. The quiz won’t take you more than three minutes and it takes you through a list of questions outlining your skin care concerns, diet and lifestyle habits. Similar to if you were having a consultation with a dermatologist.
As you fill in each question, a list of ingredients begins to formulate on the screen. Whether that’s green tea extract, recommended after selecting that you lead a stressful lifestyle, or retinol, if you’ve pointed out you are concerned with fine lines.
After this is complete and your results are formulated, you will receive a list of the product from the PROVEN range that is tailored specifically to your needs (but don’t worry you don’t have to commit to buying them).
Being the first in its field, PROVEN is an exciting one to watch and we’re looking forward to what the future holds for other brands extending their skin type profiles.
