5 minutes with... Paris Hilton

There’s no doubt about it – Paris Hilton is an icon. After finding fame as the reality star and ‘It Girl’ we all wanted to be in the 2000s, Paris parlayed her success into multiple businesses across fashion, books and, most importantly, beauty. Perhaps her most notable beauty venture is her fragrance empire, which has reportedly generated more than US$1.5 billion in sales since its launch in 2004. Say what you want about her, but this is a girl who knows what her audience wants.
RELATED: 5 minutes with... Megan Gale
To celebrate the launch of her 23rd (!!) fragrance Rosé Rush, bh’s Kate caught up with Paris on her recent trip to Australia to talk fragrance, summer and the two things she’d need if ever stranded on a desert island.
bh: You have so many fragrances! How do you come up with the idea for a scent?
Paris: Ever since I was little girl, I always loved perfumes and I always thought it was one of the best accessories – I’d go in my mum’s closet, smell all the perfumes and try them on with my sister. I always had a dream of one day having my own and now I have 23! I just know good scents and I know what works and I love designing bottles, coming up with really cool photo campaigns and just making something special so my fans have a piece of me.
bh: There’s a big beauty trend at the moment for combining fragrances – do you ever layer yours?
Paris: Yeah, well when you have 23 of them it’s fun to mix and match! So yes, I do love to layer them.

bh: So if you had to pick just one fragrance as your favourite, which one would it be? I know it’s probably like picking a favourite child…
Paris: Yes, it really is! For now, my favourite is Rosé Rush because it’s my new baby and it’s just perfect for the summer because it’s so fresh and everybody seems to love it.
bh: Finally – if you were stranded on a desert island, what would you take?
Paris: My boyfriend! And for a beauty product I would have to take my Unicorn Mist rosewater spray from my new skin care line – it’s amazing!

Have you tried any of Paris Hilton’s fragrances? Which one is your favourite?

I have never tried any of Paris' perfumes but if I come across them I will make sure to have a sniff. Sounds like she knows her stuff.

I didn't realise she's released so many perfumes! I used to have her original one when I was younger and felt really grown up using it, it's not a perfume I would use anymore though.

I actually own her original perfume which is quite nice though it's getting a bit old now

Unless she is campaigning in taste of a Dynasty resurge or a real wives of Texas or Vegas I think She needs to fire her stylist/ hairdresser. She looks like her mother and much more ‘mature’ than her age. That’s just my opinion.

Celebrity fragrances - or anything else - aren't in my must look at vocabulary.

No, not a perfume person in general. Do like light natural based scents though =D

I refuse to even sniff it, just in case I like it. There's no way I'd ever buy it, she doesn't need my money!

Hum, I have never even thought of trying her perfumes. I know that she has a few but not that she had that many.

I tried one of her fragrances a long time ago but I can't remember which one. It was probably a lovely scent, but obviously it wasn't a memorable one.

23 does sound a wee bit excessive!

Nice image with all the champagne glasses. Am now intrigued to look into her unicorn fragrance more.

Her style hasn't changed much over the years. Its still glittery, sparkly, blingy blingy bedazzle. But I guess she can afford to bathe in head-to-toe diamonds, all day, any day. :-)
