8 things mums should teach their daughters about beauty

If you are mum to a daughter, then you’re well and truly aware of the onslaught of beauty ideals coming in from all angles – and also just how impressionable she can be. To ingrain into your little girl only the best tricks of the trade, it’s important to step in at the right time and teach her about beauty in a positive way. The end goal? For her to feel happy, healthy and confident in her appearance – so she can get on with other, more important stuff…

#1 General maintenance is a must
While you don’t want her to become obsessed with her beauty look, (there’s plenty of time for that later on), it’s important for little girls and boys to learn about basic grooming. Brushing her teeth and hair, scrubbing the vegemite off her face and washing her hair every three days are all jobs she should learn to do herself. No buts!

#2 Always wear SPF
My mother used to absolutely slather me in sunscreen, so I’m a bit biased when it comes to SPF. In all seriousness though, this is probably the most important beauty lesson your daughter has to learn. Not only will it protect her from harmful UV rays, it’ll also help keep her skin in tip top condition as she ages.

#3 Haircuts have to happen
As your daughter’s hair grows longer, you’ll find yourself having more and more troubles with her tangles. This won’t be fun for either of you, so make sure she’s used to having her hair cut from a relatively early age. As well as keeping her strands healthy and strong, a visit to the salon is a fun way for her to change up her look. Alternatively, you can always cut it yourself – if you dare!

#4 Less is more
Eventually, your daughter’s beauty look will be entirely up to her, but the less-is-more approach is preferable when she’s just starting out. To prevent her piling on the products, buy her one or two subtle-but-still-fun ones for her birthday. Just make sure they fit the school dress code!

#5 Encourage experimenting…
As she gets older, your daughter will probably want to experiment a bit more with her beauty look. You may instinctively want to stop her in her tracks, but remember: You probably also played with sparkly eyeshadow when you were her age. Try to support her beauty endeavours – it’s a form of creativity, after all.

#6 …But moisturiser is mandatory
The first skin care product I ever owned was a daily moisturiser – predominantly to counteract the skin dryness that came with swimming lessons. If she’s worried about pimples, help her choose one that’s oil-free and/or formulated for acne-prone skin. Bonus points if it has SPF!

#7 Mascara is magnificent
Her favourite make-up product may change as she gets older, but mascara is an excellent one to begin with. Show her how you apply yours, (after all, you’ve been doing it since way back when), and make sure she knows no more than a couple of coats is needed to make her beautiful peepers pop. It may not be needed in the beginning, but she’ll definitely appreciate the tip later on!

#8 You are beautiful just as you are
You know your daughter is beautiful regardless of her size, skin tone or hair colour, but it’s very important that she knows this too. Show her these beautiful beauty flaws, so she knows she’s unique and special because of that birthmark, not in spite of it. And don’t forget the most important beauty lesson of all – that she is even more gorgeous on the inside.

I have used spell casting to get my ex husband back to me and also get pregnant with twins girls through the help of a great and trusted spell caster after 12 years of marriage.
When I came online last year, I met a testimony about Priest ODUNGA who has been helping people and I decided to contact him. We spoke on email at (odungaspelltemple@gmail.com) and later he gave me his Whats App number which is +2348167159012 and he assured me he would help me get my ex husband back after 3 years of no contact. My husband left me because I was unable to give him a child for 9 years after our marriage. There was no contact between us anymore and I didn't know how to get to him. Priest Odunga is the best spell caster I must say. My husband called me after 24 hours of contacting Priest Odunga. Soon I received a herbal medicine for fertility from this man, I became fertile. I and my husband reconnected that very week, had sex and I became pregnant. Today, I am happy today to be the mother of twins girls and this is ALL THANKS TO PRIEST ODUNGA. I came online to say this If you need help, I believe you are saved with this spell caster. Contact his email at (odungaspelltemple@gmail.com) and you too will give a testimony too to help others

It is crazy and scary how much little girls pick up about body image and hang ups from their mums. I always try to remember to love my body and looks, even just for my future daughters sakes.

My mum was a firm believer in looking after her skin. "Moisturise, moisturise, moisturise" she would say "and pay particular attention to your hands and neck". I should have taken her advice a lot sooner than I did.

This is great advice for any mother with a teenage daughter but way off the mark for younger girls, For all mother's out there wait until your daughter hits puberty first or wait until you think she ready for all of this. My mother did all of this for me but mine was much longer then others I must admit before I had no interest in this what so ever & now I know all about it just like any other women. Your daughter's will make mistakes along the way like me but as the saying goes more practice you get better over time of course you won't have perfection straight away.

My girls are still too young to understand how to do any of these for themselves.

Sunscreen is the only thing she would need for the first 10 years. And a good skincare regime. Not sure if she would become an addict like me!

My daughter is absolutely shocking when it comes to brushing her teeth - I'm always having to nag her to do it. I might look at getting her an electric toothbrush in the hopes that she finds it more 'fun'...

The Skintivity spf50+ could be a great idea - as long as she doesn't get it all over the carpet!

I don't have children but this reminds me of when I was growing up... And I wish someone had shown me a thing or two :( I never even used cleanser or moisturiser for the first time until I was nineteen. Luckily, I had a good complexion (naturally) and didn't have an acne problem like many young people do. But I could have done with some help!!
