Kitchen beauty secrets revealed by the A-listers
They may have millions of dollars and luxe brands lining up to send them beauty products, but A-listers still love a good, cheap beauty trick. Just like us!
From colouring their lips with roasted beetroot to using mayonnaise as a hair mask, some stars are fans of food-based beauty hacks.
Supermodel Kate Moss credits her glowing skin to the combo of ice and cucumber. “If I wake up looking tired and puffy, I fill a sink with ice and cucumber water and submerge my face. It tightens everything, making you look and feel instantly awake,” she told Stylist magazine. Since we know this stunner is no stranger to the odd ciggie and night out on the town, we’re thinking this simple beauty trick might be one to note!
Kate isn’t the only one who heads to the kitchen for a little beautifying. Shailene Woodley recently confessed to using beetroot as an alternative to lipstick. She told Bon Appetit magazine: “Beets are amazing. If you roast them you’ll get a better lipstick. They’re not as potent and they don’t stain in the same way if they’re raw, so I roast them first and then just dab a little of the juice on my lips with my finger.”
Our favourite new mum, Scarlett Johansson, uses apple cider vinegar for cleanser. Yes, that’s right: the 30-year-old slathers it on her face to keep pesky spots at bay. While she admits it’s too harsh for some skin types, Scarlett says it’s perfect for her: “I researched natural skin care and found that apple cider vinegar is really effective… If you have breakouts, it can be really healing.” It has a strong smell, though, so be warned!
To add to the list, Blake Lively conditions her hair with mayonnaise and Lupita Nyong'o combats dry skin and hair with avocado. But Catherine Zeta-Jones’ beauty routine takes the cake: she uses honey and salt on the skin to beat wrinkles, washes her hair in beer and brushes those pearly whites with a strawberry. Say what?!
So, does a youthful appearance lie as much in the kitchen as it does in the skin care aisle? The jury’s out…
