Jordana best lash extreme
Glow Recipe Watermelon Sleeping Mask (sample) - took me a while to build up the courage to use this again, given my current skin issues & also how unimpressed I was with it when I used it as a simple 10 minute mask (which they say you can do). As an overnight mask, however, I guess it's just ok. My skin felt soft the next morning (albeit a little itchy overnight) but as far as I was concerned, it didn't perform miracles. I couldn't detect any promised "glow" to my skin & tbh, I've got far more effective and cheaper priced masks in my skincare stash that also make my skin feel soft post-use. I've already ranted enough about how I think this brand is overrated; so suffice to say I'm not rushing out to buy a full size of this.
Laneige Lip Sleeping Mask (Original) sample - got this courtesy of the goody bag at the big Sephora event earlier this month. My opinions on this? Eh, it's alright. I liked the scent (I know some people aren't fussed, but I didn't mind going to bed smelling like sugary lollies/candy) & it did make my lips feel softer in the morning (provided I overdosed on the stuff - not hard to do though when you're a lip balm junkie like me); but somehow I can't quite get behind it. I didn't hate it at all - the sample lasted me close to a week's night-time use - but I didn't love it either. Either way, I could live with or without it. Maybe I'll buy a small jar when I'm OS, or maybe not.
bareMinerals Prime Time Eye Primer - chucking this out as it's about 18 months old, it isn't working well for me any more & the colour of it is too dark for my skin tone. Won't buy this again as I've come to the conclusion that I'm not fussed on it + I really want to get my hands on a mini size ABH eye primer whilst OS.
My empties for November are as follows:
A few less than usual!
Hey sally, how is the Kiehl's face mask? It has been on my wish list for ages. Is it worth the money and hype?
I really liked this mask, it really did make my skin look brighter.
I will make a future purchase, for sure.Thank you
My empties for Nov:
jupiter thanks for mentioning how The Ordinary Granactive Retinoid 2% in squalane didn't absorb so well for you. I've had lots of issues with products not absorbing in recent years, but not many people talk about this issue in their reviews. Sometimes I feel like the only person that has this problem with absorption, serums feeling sticky etc.
Hi Petal, I've been happy using the emulsion version for the past 1+ months - The Ordinary Granactive Retinoid 2% emulsion. It absorbs nicely, no irritation, so it's worth a try if you're after a good retinol formula.. I think Yohanna is using this emulsion version too.
My skin seems to change with the seasons - I was fine with the squalane version in winter when my skin needed something richer.
My empties for November :
*Adorn Loose Mineral Spf 15 Foundation Light
Have purchased this quite a few times and love the lightweight yet medium coverage. Think I may give something else a try for a while though as I've now been using this for 2 years .
*La Roche Posay Effaclar Purifying Foaming Gel
Really liked this cleanser. Lathers up well, gentle and leaves my skin soft and clean. Not sure it really helped a lot with congestion and breakouts though.
*Olay Total Effects Whip Spf 30
Got this with a prize pack from BH,its one of the only ones I have actually finished (the other being the Olay Luminous essence). Really like this one. Left my skin feeling beautifully soft and smooth and made a great primer for makeup. Love love love the added SPF protection.
*Andalou 1000 Roses Cleansing Foam
My favorite of the Andalou range. This is my third bottle and I will be buying more. So gentle yet effective and has a beautiful rose scent.
*La Roche Posay Serozinc spray
Was nice to use and felt like it was working to keep my skin clear and refreshed. Not sure I will buy again though.
*Burts Bees Coconut and Pear lip balm
100% my new go to lip product. Perfect scent and it actually keeps my lips hydrated. Have already purchased 2 more .
*Colgate Plax fresh mint mouth wash
Not a lot to say here. Does the job. Have repurchased
*Glasshouse Tahaa mini candle
My son actually claimed this one. Smells absolutely delicious. Like those soft caramel chews
*Maybelline The Colossal Volume Express mascara
Got this a while ago to trial i believe. Was nice enough. Gave great fullness to my lashes but left a bit of smearing by the end of the day (I tend to have this issue with most eye products to be fair)
♥Loved and may buy in the future
ಠಠ Not good, not bad, just Useless product
↓ Plain BAD
Empties coming are for last quarter.
Doing these quarterly makes it easier for me.
↓ Clinique high impact mascara - crappy crap. Does nothing. Decluttering.
↓ Revlon Volumizing mascara - not volumising, does not hold curl. Pffft. Decluttering.
↓ Nude by Nature Lip gloss - lip cream more like it. Never sets. goes bad quickly. Decluttering.
ಠಠ Korres lip something - old, needed decluttering. Boring product.
↓ GHD plastic cheap freebe clip - came with GHD dryer. Rubbish, needs binning. Why GHD? Seriously mate?
♥ White Glo Pure Natural - gentle F free toothpaste. Comes with bamboo toothbrush of great quality. Love both. Repurchased.
☻ The Body Shop pumpkin vanilla spice butter - great. Moisturizing, smells divine, lots of real plant butters in it. Soaks in. Leaves soft skin. Glow. Yum. Eat me now. Limited edit. So no repurchasing.
☻ Blessed by Nature Body lotion - great. Very hydrating/moisturizing. Super quick to absorb. Divine light natural scent. Soft skin. Soothing after shaving, oh so soothing! Lasts ages, huge bottle. Last bits hard to dispense. Pump needs to be removed and product shook out. Not repurchasing, too much body stuff to use up, love changing and trying more brands/products.
☻ Blessed by Nature Daily Face Moisturizer - dont use basic moisturizers (or any actually ever) on face. This one used on neck, chest and some on body when lazy to pull out body butter/lotion. Great, loved it, so light but effective. Also smell, light and naturally yum. Love that these do not leave skin sticky. Butters can be a ...ya
☻ Blessed by Nature Antioxidant Night restoring cream - gosh, love this as a neck/chest cream! So yup, as above. Keeps my skin so soft. I shower daily and need to keep skin there bouncy and elastic. My age...ya know, prevent lines in those areas. And love to have glowy hydrated skin all over. Again, have so many moisturizers given to me to use up, so will keep slathering those . Not purchasing anything in near future.
☻ Sukin Moisturizer - sample size. Used super quickly as a neck/chest (well adding shoulders arms too every time, above products also). Same as above. Worked well for those areas. Was pleasure to use.
ಠಠ Shea Moisture Body Scrub - not a scrub. Useless in original purpose. Good cream body wash. Bit stripping interestingly.
↓ J Bronze Cream - wtf...decluttering. Ek
Hair: (and a random thing that got in there!)
♥ Fudge Clean Blonde Damage Rewind Conditioner - just great. Leaves hair like a silk. Great with matching shampoo. Just works.
☻ John Frieda Frizz ease Deep Conditioner mask - good stuff. Smells delish. Leaves hair smooth, silky, easy to brush. Not repurchasing. Like to experiment with hair masks. Try more. Was GWP. And a good one!
☻ Toni & Guy Damage Repair shampoo - good average gentle basic shampoo, cleans hair. Does not strip or fry. Sample from RR. Used up , was fun. Not purchasing. Have stuff to play with.
☻ The Ordinary Hair Serum - unsure I need this. Do not have abnormal fallout. And my hair is very long. But wanted to try. Does not leave scalp greasy. Literally dries out after massaging in and leaves hair looking normal. Kept tiiiiny bit to try on lashes. Will see ....using now.
ಠಠ OGX coconut conditioner - all that claims, does not deliver. Smells delish. Works crappy. Leaves hair frizzy and sticky and dry. Me thinks would be all right for virgin hair that needs nothing.
ಠಠ Original Mineral detangler - detangles. But leaves hair looking like a straw and frizzy and ends dry. Bye. Decluttering.
ಠಠ Hask Deep Conditioner - crappy packaging. Useless product. Does nothing that it claims. Smells great. Zero benefits for dry hair. Zilch. Bye.
↓ Beauty and Planet Conditioner mimosa something - extremely drying. Don't come near my hair ever. Bye. Smells nice. Repurposed and used in washing machine, for "softness" and scent.
↓ Pantene Shampoo, Conditioner (miracle? lol), Hair Shots - all drying, all stripping. For lightened hair with bleached parts: Avoid! Virgin healthy hair...do not know. After Olaplexing I could use the shot again without it making my hair dreadlock (highlighted lightest bits, as that hair is soooo fine and delicate). Learned that I need to avoid Pantene. Micellar line works all right. Blue one though. Gentle.
Decluttered and not used the shampoo and miracle thing. Can't. Now that hair is in good state.
Nothing in all of these products that could benefit hair...at all. Zilch.
↓ Nutrimetics Gel Creme- came in a pack with 4 booster serums. Supposed to be used as a base to mix the concetrates in. The gel is utter rubbish. So perfumed (with an actual perfume) that stings! No joke! Zero ing in there good for skin at all. Used some as a conductor gel while waiting my gels from NuFace and Deciem to arrive. And washed off so quickly after NuFacing. Leaves skin so dry. Bye mate.
♥ Trilogy VitC serum - one of the best formulas of ascorbic I've used. Gentle and can wear solo. Small amount makes sure you use it up before it goes bad. As this is water solution of LAA.
♥ The Ordinary MAP vitC - creamy, moisturizing. I used it as people would moisturizer. Keeps skin juicy and healthy. I use acids, retinol, B3...all high %, so having a high VitC no crap "moisturizer", is awesome too.
♥ Granactive Retinoid 2% Emulsion - another great no crap "moisturizer" high in VitA. Very comfortable and even oddly moisturizing to my skin. I wear it solo in evenings or over water based serum.
I don't wear actual moisturizers on my face as they are just some stuff very low in active ing my skin needs, or no actives at all. I don't need oils. My skin produces them. That is why I use these above as such.
With using daily VitC, VitA, VitB3, Hyaluronic (for increased penetration) and an occasional acid, my skin atm does not need exfoliation it is that smooth and glowy. Melasma blurred and not getting worse. Not getting wrinkles or static lines yet and almost 43. Pores clear and smoothed out. No white or blackheads I used to get.
♥ LuLuLun Precious sheet masks 7 pack - reused, repurchased, great. Skin repairing. Like overnight. Solo used. Potent. Juicy skin result. Plumped up.
☻ Dr Lewinn's Line Smoothing Complex Hyaluronic Acid Boosting Essence - oh so good. Oh so pricey for the amount you get. Had no idea that was so good until I used them up and had to switch product. Made my skin so so smooth and healthy. And something more. Unsure what. Just every day was a great skin day! Absorbs in seconds. No film residue. Completely soaked into the skin. Rarely I get a thing completely absorbed. Just fab. Want more.
☻Skin Owl Beauty Drops PM - took me ages to finish off. One of the best face oils I've ever used. Heals my skin when I stuff up and overdo with actives. Now my skin is used to torture, so do not need oils. Just a great oil!
☻ Freezeframe Revitaleyes - so light, so perfect. Just soothing to eye area, not leaving grease behind so when wearing makeup over it, looks perfection. Used up very quickly though. Pump tube very good. Only eye gel I liked so far. Has great stuff inside. Want to try more brands before settling to one particular.
☻Bioderma micellar - works. Not purchasing ever micellars as they always end up given to me and I do not use them so often. HAve couple of bottles to go trough of micellars...
☻ Handsome antioxidant daily nourishing cream - gosh I was addicted to the scent (male cologne, but very good one...oooh). Formula worked perfectly to soften and keep my skin of neck and chest (arms. shoulders) healthy. I shower daily with very harsh stinky city water, so need daily hydration and pampering to prevent neck and chest lines and crepeyness. Not purchasing as have given to me more moisturizers that I will use up on those areas...again, do not use any creams on face.
☻NIOD Mastic Must - used up as a morning cleanser. This thing....washes off your existance off the skin! Everything, every molecule of oil too. was perfect to remove literally everything, suck out of my huge pores ...ya...everything. So the serums used after would soak up like there is no tomorrow! Not buying, not something needing atm. Have couple (more haahaa) of things to use up.
☻ Dermavive Gentle cleanser - smells super funky, no added perfume, but gluestick like. Though very gentle on the skin. Good basic cleanser.
☻Sukin charcoal cleanser - loved this. One of the rare cleansers that is foaming and does not leave my skin stripped or tight. Leaves skin silky, washes well, does not strip, just faaab cleanser. Again, not buying again, have a few in stash to go.
☻ Hunter samples: mask, wash, moisturizer - used one after another as a complete routine, my skin was fab. Good products for overall skin health. Using the rest of the samples atm...
ಠಠ Neautriderm Skin whitening cream - did not get results with brightening melasma, but was good moisturizer to use as a basic cream. Comfortable, gentle etc. Just no results on my skin for my concern.
ಠಠ Nutrimetics Ultra Care Platinum - used up as a face moisturizer. Supposed to be some sort of serum, but it is so rich for my skin. Took ages to finish up, does not absorb, so I was using it over my water based serum. Not bad product just not something I really need.
↓ Blaque eye mask - does nothing. At all. Makes under eye skin a bit tight and uncomfortable, as if dehydrating.
↓ Cremolab Hydro Plus snow something cream - not hydrating, not doing anything really. Perfume too strong too. Decluttering.
↓ Olay total effects 7 day something spf15 - smells like cheap soap all day long , burns eyes and dehydrates surface skin. Feels like wearing soap all day on the face. Decluttering, can not use it.
↓ Duit VitE cream - drying and useless. Used up on legs.
↓ Nutrimetics step 4 in that 4 step system Platinum something - sits on top of the skin, zero absorption, I used it mixed with something else, not Nutrimetics gel thingie that is very bad for the skin. Every base I used it with would sit on top and make me look super greasy. Even a tiny drop.
Whoa, you've had a big monthYohanna!
What a collection Yohanna. You will be able to do a lot of reviews.
Last quarter. Doing these quarterly. Find it easier as it takes me about 2.5-3 months to completely use up a product on average.
Yes, have a huge list of reviews to go. Huge. Keeping it all in Word...drafting...
Yohanna, I love your ranking system. You have put a lot of time into these.
Have a great Christmas.
Thank you beautyfun, have an amazing Christmas too!
I just bought a box of the Green Lululun masks. I think it's one of my favourite sheet masks of all time!
Ooooh, amazing Ethelinde! I like most the white regular. But use Precious green when need instant plump and repair (overnight, before event especially, or when just wanting that great skin day).
Love how they stick to the face while doing chores, and hold so much gooop in the gauze. Plus stretchy, so fits me perfectly over my big nose xD)
Okay first time posting my empties and I've forgotten a few...
Garnier Skin Active Micellar cleansing water. It was ok, It removed makeup but smelled a little of alcohol so made me tentative to use it. I wont be purchasing.
Olay Miracle Boost youth pre-essence. I will keep buying until I can get around to testing whether it does anything or not.
Akin Age defy firming night cream, soothing day cream and lifting eye cream. I was on the trial team for this and did like it but think other products suit my skin better. having said that when its on sale it is more affordable than other said products.
Essence lash princess sculpted volume mascara. Cheap mascara with good results. Lasted me ages. Yes I know you are supposed to throw out after three months but if it aint broke why fix it? Not sure if I'll re purchase. so many mascaras out there so little time.
Oktko, thanks so much for joining this thread. As for your comment about mascara lasting ages, how long did you use it for?
Petal I think valuable information is learnt from this thread especially if repurchasing is mentioned. I know I’ve learnt a lot.
I try to write my reviews after I finish a product but sometimes that’s too hard or not possible so by the time I’ve finished a product my original opinion might have changed. By sharing that info here it’s also going to force me to reassess a product.
The mascara I think I started sometime in the first half of the year. I’m not sure when. I usually write when I first started a product in my notes but that info doesn’t tend to make it into my review. After my review is approved I delete my notes.
I've got a buttload of empties from my travels, so will be splitting this into a number of posts.
I know I've posted a November empties, but here's Part 2. There's no photos of my junk, soz:
Ego Sunsense Sensitive Invisible Sunscreen samples x2 - usual sunscreen, had 3 more samples to go, which I finished in December.
Moogoo Udder Skin Cream (small size) - wasn't bad; it moisturised my skin without drying it out. It is quite thick though & can take a while to absorb, so if you're not a fan of those types of body lotions, steer clear. I got this as a GWP, but I can't say I like it enough to buy a full size as I like chopping & changing my body lotions.
Burt's Bees Rejuvenating Eye Masks x2 - bought these whilst in the US, used 1 one night on myself but couldn't bear to use the other one again, so used it on my Mum the next night. The herbal scent of these was a turn off + they felt a little irritating. They're also an oil-based eye mask, which I found unusual. Definite no from me.
Syrene Power Masque with Aquagel Advanced Hydration x2 - used these on both my Mum & I. I personally wasn't fussed on this at first, perhaps because I didn't wear it for long enough (I nearly fell asleep whilst wearing it, so took it off earlier than I should have for fear of going to sleep with it on). My Mum liked it though - she needed the hydration a bit more than I did. That being said, my skin soaked up any remaining serum very quickly. I didn't have any issues with the eye & lip holes in terms of sizing, probably because I closed both my eyes & lips whilst wearing it. I wouldn't buy one of these because I didn't like them enough to fork out the $.
Pacifica Disobey Time Rose & Peptide sheet mask - although I'm not a fan of sheet masks generally, I really liked this one. It had the right amount of serum in it & was quite possibly the best fitting sheet mask I've ever used as I didn't feel any discomfort, nor did I have to shift it around or cut it to fit my face. I really wish Pacifica was stocked/properly stocked in Australia as I think we're missing out (although I'm sure we can get it on iHerb, from memory). I grabbed another one of these before I left the US....will post a photo of me wearing it + the item below when I get the chance to.
Acure Radically Rejuvenating Under-Eye Hydrogels x1 - bought a 12 pack of these from a TJ Maxx store pre-cruise, so you'll see them popping up in my empties a fair bit from here on out. Like the Pacifica mask, I like/liked these too. Whilst I can't say that my under-eye area is ever "radically rejuvenated" after using them, at least I can say that these stay put on my under-eye area & they offer up a nice bit of hydration. That said, you do have to watch out when removing them from the tray they come in as they are on the flimsy side & break easily. Got plenty more to get through.
BITE Agave Daytime Lip Balm (mini) - got this in a minis pack with the Nighttime Lip Therapy + the original Agave Lip Mask (which is being reformulated as the brand is going fully vegan this year) whilst in Fort Lauderdale; used it up within 5 days. I thought it was alright, but nothing to write home about & nowhere near as great as my usual Lanolips balm. It's very oily & can break easily (the top of mine did not long after purchase), so you have to be careful with it. Glad I tried it, but wouldn't buy it again.
Josie Maran Argan Cleansing Oil (deluxe sample) - I quite liked this & was surprised by how long this sample lasted. I got it in a Mecca box early last year & it managed to last me about 6-9 months. It did thicken over time; but unlike the Sukin Facial Greens Cleansing Oil I've been using on & off (& was hoping to have finished before I got home 2 days ago, but alas, I'll be using it for a couple more weeks yet), this one does emulsify a little. I also don't mind the grapefruit scent. I contemplated buying a full size whilst in the US, but decided against it as I know I love my Trilogy cleansing oil & need to get through that.
Syrene Aquagel Oil to Foam Cleanser x2 - thought this was ok. Doubt I'll purchase it, but if I were given a fuller size I'd probably give it another whirl.
Hunter Cleansing Facial Scrub - too abrasive for my skin, even though it smelt nice. Hell to the n-o.
Syrene Aqualight Gel Moisture Lotion - this is better for oilier skins than mine (I'm sensitive/combo/dehydrated), but could be a good lightweight summer moisturiser for me. Like the oil-to-foam cleanser, if I were given a full size I'd give it a whirl.
Hunter Hand & Body Lotion - just a lotion, nothing special. Smelt ok, but that's not enough to warrant a proper purchase.
Natasha Denona eyeshadow sample (I think I got Moonstone) - liked the colour in the pan & when swatched, as opposed to on the eye where it turned more orange. I also found that despite using eyeshadow primer, it didn't have much staying power, so I tossed it in the bin after a couple of uses. IMO her shadows are expensive & overrated.
This product is compact, comes with multiple heads and only needs 1 battery for it to run. It also comes with a little bag so it’s easy and small to pack away.
Such a neat little kit with more than one use that helps you save on time and effort - depending on personal preferences.
