After the horrific events today in Melbourne I wanted to say I hope our beauties are safe with no one directly affected by the horror.
Please take care.
Just checking with our Melbourne Beauties and hoping none of you have been directly affected by the horror of the day's events in the city.
It's beyond belief and I'm hoping all our Forumites are safe and that none of you or your family and friends have been directly involved.
Stay safe - thinking of you all who live and work in Melbourne, especially those who were in the City area today.
I was so shocked to hear about this incident. Melbourne is one of my favourite cities. I live in Qld and always try and go there at least once a year. Am still looking forward to my trip there in April despite this terrible event. Thinking of those who have been affected by this tragedy.
I usually wander down Bourke St Mall at that exact time because it is my lunch hour but for no particular reason I told my boyfriend I wanted to be somewhere on Lonsdale St for lunch (parallel street to Bourke St). By the time we were heading back, there were people running in our direction and we knew something was very wrong. I had also turned down another lunch invite which would have placed me directly in that vicinity. The two ladies who asked me out to lunch suffered a lot of trauma. At the cafe they went to they were told there was a gunmen loose, people ran in absolutely terrified and everyone was hiding under tables.
My office is on the corner of Bourke/William St and it took me quite a while to get the right information about what was happening. I stayed away from the office because I was misinformed that there was a bomb threat at first. Other initial reports were that there was a gunmen on the loose and/or someone was driving around running people down but he was still on the loose.
Two colleagues had to go home because they witnessed people being mowed down by the driver including our CEO, who I was told was later overheard crying in her office. I had to go home. I couldn't work and it was just so eerie on the streets.
I'm so grateful we missed it but my heart goes out to everyone else and especially the victims' families.
A colleague of my husband returned to work and broke down after relating the story. She witnessed the car mowing down some people and was absolutely shaken and horrified as you can imagine.
And the car stopped at the Deloitte office - where my sister works. She said that people were not allowed to get in or out of the building. Luckily she was out of danger because she had to work from home on Friday.
My heart goes out to those who have been affected by this maniac.
It's just heartbreaking that people going about their daily business were mowed down injured and killed and in such a careless and wreckless way. My heart goes out to the people and families affected by this. So sad!!
I can't imagine how you feel etheldine , it sounds like you were just not meant to be there.
Lubz I'm glad your sister was at home safely.
I hate seeing all these things happening in the world lately
It's so sad and I feel terrible for all the people affected by this, really can't understand this sort of violence and tragedy. So sad and shocking.
Very sad - just heard the 5th victim has passed away - 3 month old baby boy
How can someone do something so senseless?
So glad to hear our beauties are safe. My co- worker went to Melbourne for the weekend but I'm sure he's ok. Wrong place, wrong time and lives are changed in an instant - cherish your loved ones always.
The saddest part is I think it could have been prevented. He has a history of mental illness, abuse etc... so if he was intervened and/or helped by the police , hospitals etc and given special attention , then he would not have reached the psychotic level. He already had a history so why wasn't he either in goal or in a hospital before the horrible incident and can we stop future ones with these senseless crimes. Prayers for Melbourne .
Just been catching up with threads here now and seen your thread on this Trish - I've been chatting about it elsewhere.
When I heard the news of it all, I just felt so saddened for everyone and I immediately thought of lots of BH members that we know live in and work in Melbourne. I felt like it was watching a scene from another country.....not Melbourne.
Now we hear that the 3 month old baby boy has died. Just shocking hearing that news. I can only now pray for the other critical people still fighting.
Oh my God, I was so shocked when we turned on the news here in Perth WA, I never thought to see such a thing in Australia. My heart goes out to all the people involved.
I love Melbourne and it will not stop us from visiting again either. All our love and heartfelt wishes go to those who lost family members or friends and to those poor people who witnessed the awful act.
The government has set up a fund to help families affected by this tragedy, please support and donate - we cannot do anything to ease their suffering but we can help to make sure their financial needs are met.

Have no tv, and just found out from you guys. What a tragedy. Very happy to hear all of our beauties are safe and did not have to witness this.
As a Melburnian through and through my heart has been weeping for my beautiful city and her people.
My heart is breaking for the families who lost their loved ones. Such senseless violence. It makes my heart hurt and my blood boil!
So sad there is a previous thread with this same issue. Hoping all you Melbourne beauties are safe and were not affected by the events this evening.
My heartfelt sympathy goes out to the family and friends of all the people involved in this terrible tragedy. Our thoughts are with you.
