Men's Beard Care
Men's Beard Care
Ok beauties, so my man has what he hates to call a "baby face", and decided a few years ago now that a beard was the manliest way to counteract this. I much preferred it when it was subtle stubble, but alas the full beard is here to stay. Only problem is, the skin underneath the beard tends to get fairly dry and flaky. And the bristles can be a bit rough. So far he's tried a beard oil, which made little difference but the fragrance was awful! And, a beard balm he found at the supermarket in a small blue tub (can't remember the name), but the fragrance smells like a spice jar, and not in a good way (kind of like a bunch of cloves)! Anyone have any ideas? I was even considering making a balm myself so we could control the fragrance!

Great addition to skincare routine
I highly enjoyed being able to add this to my daily skincare routine, one extra step, but worth it!
After the first use, my skin felt hydrated.
Avoid for oily skin great for dry skin
My skin feels well moisturised after a dry day, but can feel a little sticky if it is been too humid or if I am a bit oily that day.

What about Rose Hip Oil? Or coconut oil?
He's tried one of my argan oils, a pure one with no other junk in it. And that seemed to do not much either. But that still tends to smell a bit perfume-y. I found a few balms on Etsy that looked good, with bees wax, avocado oil, argan oil and vitamin e, but the postage is as much as the product!
What he wants is something that will nourish the skin underneath the beard, but hopefully not make the beard itself look shiny. He's a tough cookie!
With Argan oil if it's not doing much then it means you haven't used enough, for coarse and thick hair you can really pile that stuff on especially if it's pure! Add a bit, let it absorb and then repeat until the desired effect is achieved.
Bead hair is always, always going to be much coarser than any other hair, it's actually quite like pubic hair (sorry, I know that's not info people want to hear), but it can be softened up with the right products, it's just a matter of finding what his hair really likes.
I would take a little trip with him to Lush, they do some great manly scents and probably have something that could be suitable for the beard hair. The coarse hair issue and the dry flaky skin issue will have to be addressed separately though, I would definitely say the rosehip oil and a really hydrating night cream would be best for the skin, massage them both in at night, being really generous with the product and then wash out in the morning with a gentle cleanser. You'll have to explain to him that most all-in-one products do many jobs but are usually sub-par, having a few products that are targeted to certain issues is going to give him better reults.
If he wants the best of both worlds he's going to have to put a little effort in lol!
Good luck Beauty_Jem, I've experienced a man who had trouble maintaining his beard as well and it can be frustrating trying to find the right thing to help them.
My wife likes Maple Holistics, and she suggested I look on their website for a product to use. I found this: https://www.mapleholistics.com/products/skin-care/assuage-beard-oil/ which looks like it might help, but I'm really not well versed in this.
Do you think this will work, or should I try something else?
If you want an Australian business, try www.winstonsbeard.com.au. They use only natrual ingredients for their beard balm, wax, oil and soap. The oil is excellent for dry skin, and the balm is great as well. They done use any fragrances, as these can cause irritation. Definitely good products.
Oh ok i suggested those two because people do use them on their hair so it shouldn't look too shiny or greasy. Does he shampoo his beard? I have read that if you shampoo too much it can cause dry and flaky skin, or use a dandruff shampoo instead of normal shampoo! And Jojoba oil is apparently good for the beard and dry skin.
Thanks beauties! Looks like next time we go shopping we'll be stopping by Lush and Priceline haha! Ok, so: Jojoba oil Rosehip oil and lather it on! Got it!
Beauty_Jem, you could try Trilogy's Everything Balm. If it doesn't work, you can find another purpose for it. You might be lucky and find a Priceline or health food store that has a tester available for it (for him to test it out).
Beauty Gem, it sounds similar to what my husband gets with his beard. He finds that washing with an anti-dandruff shampoo, then using MY L'Oreal Elvive Oil (only recently discovered this, lol) seems to help him.
Will have to get the boyfriend to get some beard oil! His gets dry and flaky with breakouts under his beard.
My hubby was just complaining to me about dry skin under his beard! Will have to pass on these tips & possibly get ready to start sharing my night cream & rose hip oil.
Such obvious spam! I've reported.
Hmm. .. I wonder how big a nickel is, or a dime too for that matter. Brillo? No "u" in colour.

I've never had to deal with beards but always wondered if hair conditioners or hair masks would help?
I've reported spam by Adam_Masters who tried to hide it earlier in this thread. Please do not click on suspicious links.
Thank you very much for your assistance with my dilemma. /s
Not that it matters anymore, as I'm just going clean shaven now. Less of a hassle in the long run.
I had the same problem when I moved form a short trimmed beard to a more robust style. The best way to keep the beard and facial skin in good shape is to not use soap on the beard, but rather, use a good quality moisturizing type shampoo on your hair and beard.
With beard and moustache in fashion, many men have started the old style of having beard. But I guess it needs to be taken a lot of care. As it is around the mouth lot of food can get stuck and may be germs could too breed in them. It is actually logical to use shampoo and clean it well. I guess a beard face needs more care
Yes, jojoba oil, argan oil, and chamomile oil all help relieve itchy skin and keep your beard soft. My husband usually uses fragrance-free beard care oil, such as Viking Revolution and Ranger. Its ingredients are only jojoba oil and argan oil, nothing else.
