Mascara for redheads
Mascara for redheads
Hi all. I’m looking to invest in some mascara and want to experiment with different colours. I’ve found that black has never quite suited me. Does anyone know where I can buy a burgundy shade of mascara? Or indeed any shades/general tips that might suit someone with brown eyes and lighter coloured eye lashes?

Regular buyer for a long time.
Im stuck buying this product literally. I used it when my children were babies and now there a bit older and understand they no bath, cream, then bed. No cream = no bed for 3 very angry toddlers.
Smooth cream that doesn’t feel too heavy
This moisturiser has a lovely smooth texture and glides onto my skin beautifully. I found it left my skin feeling soft and supple and it also wears well under makeup.

My eyelashes are so pale that I can barely see them without mascara. I always wear black mascara but I do not have red hair and I prefer a bolder makeup look.
Thanks for your help :) I think I'm going to go for a bit of hunt in the shopping centre and ask for some advice from some of the ladies at the make-up concessions.
I might have to give black another chance :)
I used to use a mascara by Covergirl back in the day that was in a brown shade. I'm pretty sure Covergirl still make their range in brown shades, although they can be a bit harder to track down. I would totally recommend it though as it's much more of a subtle look than black mascara!
Also, I find that tight-lining my upper waterline with an eyeliner before I apply my mascara helps to hide the light roots of my natural eyelashes. This might help darker mascara suit you a bit more because it gives a better blend! But you can do this trick with brown as well if you have a brown eyeliner and mascara; any corresponding colour works really, it just brings together a look really well.
Hope this helps!
Thanks for the advice about using eyeliner before mascara to help cover the roots.
That's the exact problem I'm having, its hard to find brown shades and reddish shades in the shops. I just want to experiment a bit with different colours before I invest in a proper more expensive mascara.
No problem! Covering the roots always makes a massive improvement, whatever the colour!
Lulu_97, I forgot to mention that you could have your eyelashes tinted at a salon or do this at home yourself. This should cover lashes close to the lash line. If you prefer a natural makeup look, you might not even want to apply mascara over the tinted lashes.
Here are reviews for 1000 Hour which make dyes for home use. Not only that, they're available in dark brown:
