Now that I am able to create a topic (shakes fist at spam) this thread can be dedicated to discussing essential oils :)
I will often mix oils during the day, but at night I stick to plain old Lavender.
I think one persons idea of well-balanced and good quality might be vastly different than another persons. Is the fact that one or two oils overpower the others upsetting enough for you to leave less than 5 stars. ? if it says something like 'a relaxing blend' and it does'nt relax me then I would give it less than 5 stars.
Maybe just mention that one or two overpower others and leave it up to the person reading the review to decide if that's a good or bad thing. Good quality for me is if the smell lasts for quite a while before fading. . Essential oils are so hard for me to review.
Lisa359, thanks for your comments. The fact that one essential oil seems to be more dominant makes me question what the point is in buying a blend. In other words, I can just vaporise/difffuse a single oil. In the drafts of my reviews, I have stated that one essential oil seems to be more dominant.
I wrote some essential oil reviews for another brand a long time ago and they were easier to give a star rating because they had a very weak scent - when sniffing the bottle's contents and when diffused. I gave them a low star rating.
Maybe that's something to consider as well - are they putting in lots of cheaper, easier to get oils and adding more expensive oils in to the mix in much smaller quantities ? That might be a reason why, it might be worth mentioning?
You raise a great point, and you're probably right. Many of the blends have cheaper essential oils mixed with more expensive ones such as frankincense, Australian sandalwood, rose and jasmine.
And I don't think they have to mention specific quantities on the bottle so it might be 50% lavender, 40% orange and only 10% of a pricier oil. A bit stingy maybe.
Lisa359, thanks for our little chat! Your comments have helped me clarify a few things.
I have tried a couple of blends from Springfields which were lovely. Not only that, I didn't question if one essential oil was more dominant or not as I just enjoyed the product.
Petal and Lisa, I'm late to this discussion but my star rating for something like essential oils is purely based on my feelings regarding the oil and/or blend. If I love the fragrance and the way I respond to it, it will be a 5 star rating. To get that rating I'd need to love the fragrance, be impressed with the length of time it lasts and enjoy the way the fragrance uplifts or calms me.
I always blend cedarwood as I really feel that it has excellent properties but it is too strong for me to use alone. I usually blend it with lavender, sometimes with a citrus oil.
In Essence, Strength is one I really love and the combination of oils seems to be excellent, with no oil dominating. Cedarwood, Geranium, Grapefruit and Orange are the oils in this blend.
I have a few electric vaporisers throughout the house and use those frequently.
I love essential oils. I really do believe that you get what you pay for, and I won’t buy cheap ones. My absolute favourite is In Essence Harmony. It’s described as “a blend of Lavender, Bergamot, Ylang Ylang, Geranium and Roman Chamomile pure essential oils to embrace open mindedness and creativity.” I also use the Sleep blend quite often too. I also love Joy, which is described as “a blend of Bergamot, Geranium, Clary Sage, Orange and Rose Otto pure essential oils uplift and elevate the mood.” I use an electric diffuser, which is pretty old now. Maybe I’ll ask Santa for a new one this year! Essential oils make such a difference to my mood.
Gee Rose if I had the Harmony or the Sleep Blends, I would end up on the floor with a migraine and wouldn't feel good at all for a month.
Oh no Jatz! That’s awful. You poor thing. I really feel for you. I’d be lost without my essential oils.
After chatting about essential oil blends on this thread, I submitted my reviews for them. I wrote a paragraph about my reasoning behind my ratings based on our chats, but I deleted it because it was too long. Hopefully my star rating for each blend shows how I feel about its quality.
I have used the original proactiv products in the past with great success but never gave the proactiv+ products much thought because they had tried to phase out benzoyl peroxide and replaced it wit
