I have some mould in the bathroom on the ceiling which I need to try and remove. Have read vinegar is good for this. Has anyone used it successfully to remove mould?
I don't know if vinegar will do the trick but I do know that if you do cleaning with vinegar, this does attract FLIES. Just thought I would share that knowledge with you.
There is a product that you mix in with paint that will retard mould and it does work well. Clover oil is effective in killing mould and there are probably more products out there too but it does tend to return. Be sure that you are wearing a face mask as mould spoors are extremely harmful.
Clover Oil is very good but it is very expensive but you can mix it with White Vinegar.
However, never mix vinegar with bleach. Vinegar and bleach create a toxic mix.
Some mould killing products which are safe to mix with vinegar are borax, hydrogen peroxide, baking soda, and salt.
Make sure to wear a face mask like Am1851 and good pair of rubber gloves.
I had mould in my previous home's bathroom in the shower area's grout. I tried using clove oil to remove it but it didn't work. This surprised me because clove oil is meant to work well. At the time, I wasn't aware that vinegar may have worked. I had a rental inspection coming up and I needed a quick fix so I bought a bottle of Dettol Healthy Clean Mould Remover and it removed the mould. I don't know why Dettol has the words "healthy clean" in the product's title because it contains sodium hypochlorite which doesn't sound like a healthy ingredient to me.
We had some mould happening in the ceiling when we moved into this house.
What we did was placed some pantyhose over the brush of the broom. Then made up a concoction of 1/4 teaspoon oil of cloves that we mixed in a 1 litre of water spray bottle.
Spray this on to the brush head. Sweep the broom in parallel stripes over the area. Repeat in 24 hours. The second repeat will remove any staining.
If the problems continue then there could be a problem with the drainage or a broken tile. Then you will have to repair it.
The above took the mould off our ceiling and we haven't needed to do it again since.
Thanks for the great tip!
We've tried cleaning mould off with vinegar but it just grows back :(
Hayley644, vinegar will work but if the amount of growth you have is significant you may need an alternative.
There are lots of effective commercial products available, you just have to consider the one most suitable for the surface you are cleaning. Beware most of these products are foul smelling, but they work.
I hated the smell of the oil of cloves and that is why I got my hubby to do it all. The smell didn't get to him like it did with me but then I do have a high adverse to strong fragrances.
Also watch out for commercial mould killers they will stain clothing so wear old clothes when removing mould with commercial cleaners, and a mask and gloves.
Vinegar straight with tea tree is good... I have been using the Bosisto's Shower/bathroom cleaner that has eucalyptus in it… It lifts the mould clean up and also unblocks the drains if they drain slow... No nasties and just a great product to try...
In my shower, the seams between the tiles turn black. I wipe them with vinegar, leave for a few minutes. Then I wipe it with detergent and wash it off.
But this must be done regularly, otherwise it becomes more difficult to wipe.
I have mature acne prone skin (still!) that gets congested and feels blurgh every so often. This is my go to scrub/mask to restore my skin to feeling normal and 'clean'.
This was a great eye product! The results speak for them self! I was so happy to see an improvement just after using the product constantly for a week.
L'oreal Elvive Extraordinary Clay Detox shampoo comes in the usual packaging and the color is different and attractive to me. It has a slight smell that does not linger for long after wash.
