Detox foot spa
If you’re feeling less than your usual perky self, it could be a sign of a poor lifestyle. A nutritionally inadequate diet, neglected skincare regime and lack of exercise can all take their toll on our body and – believe it or not – one of the best ways to start eliminating the nasty toxins in your system built-up from a week of takeaway dinners, is your feet.
Our feet are natural toxin-eliminators, but we can also increase their detoxifying powers with a detox foot spa. Good foot health has been linked with improved body and mind health. So if you want to clear out the pizza boxes and start being a little more virtuous, here’s how to get started…
Detox foot spa
A detox foot bath is surprisingly easy to make yourself at home and is thought to help improve circulation, energy and general foot health. All you need is a tub full of warm water for soaking your feet and a selection of your favourite cleansing herbs. Some herbs that have been linked with cleansing and detoxification are: licorice root, dandelion, milk thistle, bayberry and parsley. Rubbing lemon on the soles of your feet will also aid in toxin elimination.
Step up your foot health (no pun intended)
Improve your foot health by starting a regular foot care routine. Take weekly foot baths with softening milk and olive oil and aim to have a foot detox spa at least once a month. Eliminate dry, hard skin which can block toxin release and invest in a good pumice. Start by using once a week, working in gentle circular motions over dry areas and calluses.
Become foot health conscious
Certain foods, such as foods high in sugar and salt, can cause foot inflammation and swelling. Inflamed, swollen feet are more ineffective at performing their regular detoxifying duties and can lead to an overall feeling of achiness and sluggishness. If your feet are crying out for a foot health makeover, take note. Try to reduce sugar in your diet – foods like cakes, cookies and lollies are the worst culprits – and stay away from over-salted foods like potato chips; your feet and your body will thank you for it.
