Kyle Sandilands: brave or beastly?
Kyle Sandilands has never been one to mince words. The king of radio is better known for his fiery feuds than his on-air abilities. Yep, there have been feuds with Ricki-Lee, Magda Szubanski, and Rove (to name but a few!), and most recently, with news.com.au Deputy Editor, Alison Stephenson.
You may or may not have heard about his latest controversy, but basically Stephenson was attacked by Kyle Sandilands after The Kyle and Jackie-O Show once-off Night With The Stars television segment was branded somewhat of a flop. Some may call her use of negative Twitter grabs effective journalism, while others may call it mean. Either way – Sandilands didn’t take it very lightly.
On air for The Kyle and Jackie-O Show the very next morning, Kyle Sandilands engaged in a colourful rant against the journalist, calling her a number of names before scrutinising her job and finishing with a threat. As a result, major advertisers such as Vodafone, Holden and American Express pulled their sponsorship of the radio show.
The advertisers’ reaction may seem obvious, as was mine until I listened to his seemingly genuine on air apology the following morning. He admitted that he was fiery, bad-tempered and doesn’t really know when to shoosh. He also admitted that even though he seems to be involved in a lot of these mishaps, he is actually never the first to fire up – just to defend himself when someone “has a go”. Which in some scenarios, is fair enough.
You probably have your own opinion of Kyle fairly set in stone, but it’s interesting to know that for every person that hates him another one loves him – so the question is, do you think he’s brave or beastly?
What do you think of Kyle Sandilands?
