Five minutes with...Ruby Rose
Voted by women as the Aussie celebrity that best embodies confidence, VJ and TV presenter, Ruby Rose, is definitely a someone that’s going to make her mark in 2011. Recently named as the spokesperson for Schick, Ruby took some time out to chat with us about being open about her sexuality, kissing strangers, and of course, a bit of beauty…
Bh: When you’re feeling down, what’s the one thing that gives you a confidence boost?
RR: Rest and water. I think we absolutely under-estimate the importance of sleep. Also, a little pampering goes along way, whether it’s a good face mask, a little bikini grooming, or a massage it completes any good day.
Bh: How has being open and honest about your sexuality in the public realm affected your confidence?
RR: It gave me a lot of strength and has made me very at peace within myself for having the guts to be as open as I was. I didn’t know how it would end up or how it would be taken and I am blessed with all the support the media and people have given me. I am very lucky; there is a lot of love in the world.
Bh: What’s the strangest tattoo you have, and where is it?
RR: [laughs] A friend tattooed “smile” on my ribs but it looks like '5mile'.
Bh: What’s the craziest thing you’ve done to land a job?
RR: Well to get my MTV job I had to skull 100 shots of beer in 100 minutes, kiss strangers and skateboard off a massive skate ramp in a koala suit.
Bh: What’s the best beauty tip you’ve ever been taught?
RR: That you need to focus just as much on what you put in your body as what you do on the outside. The BEST thing for your skin is drinking water… end of story.
Bh: What’s your worst-ever beauty blunder?
RR: Over-plucking my eyebrows in high school - erghh horrid! That’s why I have such big ones now [laughs]. Phobia!
Bh: Who's your beauty icon and why?
RR: Joan Rivers [laughs]. I love Angelina Jolie’s simple, effortless minimal make-up style. With lips and eyes like that why would you need any, I guess.
Bh: What’s on your bedside table?
RR: A bottle of water I drink throughout the night, a book, usually dog toys, and a candle.
Bh: What’s the last beauty product you bought?
Bh: What’s the most interesting place you’ve travelled to and why?
RR: Kenya - I loved working with the children there and seeing the country, it was both challenging and rewarding. I want to go back sometime in 2011… actually that’s not good enough… I WILL go back soon.
Bh: What would you never leave home without?
RR: My phone, lipgloss, house keys and gum.
Bh: If you weren't in the media you'd be...?
RR: Working with kids or elderly people. I wanted to study child psychology.
