Melissa Hann's survival story
I knew from the moment I was diagnosed that it was going to be a very tough year! It was devastating to be told I had Breast Cancer. I never thought that I would get sick in my life. As hard as it is, you just have to deal with as it becomes part of your life. Going to visit doctors, having weekly blood tests and chemo just becomes routine.
What kept me going was the fact that I knew that the horrible feeling of being sick would eventually be over. I wanted to get better to be able to help other young women who are diagnosed with breast cancer and raise awareness that it can happen to anyone.
Having supportive family and friends means a lot to me. The love and support they offered is something I really appreciate and I wouldn't have got through the journey without them.
Life for me now is pretty much back to normal. 2010 and 2011 where very hard years for both me and my family. I'm back to full time work and I'm enjoying my life with my family and friends.
Now that I'm healthy and well, I want to focus on raising awareness on how important breast cancer research is.
Research is very important to me as breast cancer is not a single disease. There are many different forms all requiring different regime of treatment. Support from the funding of sales of Dove pink products helps to accelerate the progress in the fight against breast a cancer. Because without funding there is no research and research is the only way to help find a cure for this nasty disease.
For women who are diagnosed with breast cancer it’s not an easy journey. There will be some really tough times and you'll get sick of hearing the phrase "be positive" everyone. It's hard to hear when you are so sick! With the help of family and friends you'll get through it. A friend of mine Colleen preferred to say "just keep dancing".
What do you think of Melissa's story? Have you, or someone you know gone through something similar?
