Girl's guide to feeling good – relationships and dating
When it comes to relationships and dating, a lot of us, who are usually confident and self-assured in all other aspects of our lives, find ourselves feeling suddenly unsure and insecure.
And as much as we may try to hide it, this lack of self-esteem often comes out – usually in a variety of highly undesirable ways (think jealous accusations, hysterical crying, feelings of neediness, and – of course – the embarrassing drunken behaviour, crazy text messages and facebook ‘stalking’).
Now let’s be honest beauties, we’ve all been there before and we know it’s not pretty – not for anyone involved. It doesn’t make us feel any better about ourselves, and it sure as hell doesn’t endear us to our husbands/boyfriends/latest crush.
So what can a girl do to keep her confidence when it comes to relationships and dating? Alina Berdichevsky, Founder and Facilitator of The Art of Being Sexy - Beauty Confidence and Sensuality Coaching for Modern Women, believes that there are a few secrets to maintaining your confidence. “It’s important to remember that he likes you for you,” she says. “It’s your essence that draws him - your scent, your smile, your mannerisms, that are unlike anyone else's.” So the next time you start to feel insecure, don’t forget that your man chose to be with you for a reason, so don’t be afraid to be yourself.
Likewise, if you feel a freak-out coming on, try to talk to a friend about the issue first as it may help you to gain some perspective on things. “Your moods are also your responsibility,” reminds Berdichevsky. “Even if he’s being a typical ‘boy’ (read: testing you!), it’s up to you how you choose to react to it.” Trust us beauties, you’ll express yourself much more clearly if you talk things through rationally, which will make you feel a lot better about yourself on the whole.
And of course, if you’re ever feeling down on yourself, there’s nothing like creating a fab new hair ‘do, perfecting a sultry smoky eye, or just relaxing in a warm bubble bath to get you feeling feminine and sexy again (and you know just the place to come for help with that!)
