3 things you didn’t know about your underarms
If you were to list every body part you care for on a daily basis, your underarms would probably be close to the bottom. But now that spring is here and you’re showing a bit more skin, it’s time to pay more attention to your pits. Because even though they might not always be front of mind, a little consideration can make a huge difference to your skin. Watch the video above to see exactly what we’re talking about, or check out the facts and tips below.
UNDERARM FACT #1 - Each underarm is different
Each underarm has its own amount of hair and a different growth rate, so it’s totally possible to have one underarm that’s slightly hairier. So yes, it’s normal to need to shave one more than the other. Eeek!
UNDERARM FACT #2 - When you shave, you remove skin cells
When you shave, you can remove up to 35% of the top layer of skin cells. Just like when you peel a carrot, your underarms may look smooth straight after shaving, but after a while, they can begin to dry out because their protective barrier has been removed.
UNDERARM FACT #3 - The skin in that area is different
Underarm skin is unique and delicate compared to other parts of the body. It has a weaker barrier function because of the different mix of lipids, which is why you may find the skin there is easily irritated and prone to dryness.
Nobody wants to be caught out with red, itchy or dry underarms, so to help keep your skin healthy, use a gentle deodorant like Dove Original Roll-On Deodorant every day.
It contains ¼ moisturising cream, which works to repair the skin and restore moisture, in turn keeping your underarms hydrated and smooth, no matter how often you shave.
Are you surprised by these underarm facts? Have you ever used Dove Original Roll-On Deodorant?

Haha never thought about that really. I suppose it makes sense though as one side is slightly bigger ie your foot etc when you think about it that way you kind of understand how one armpit can differ to the other!

Point # 2 is interesting. I find that using a natural deodorant helps, even though Dove is a great brand.

I use an epilator which can be used on the underarm area for hair removal. It does a fantastic job. I did know underarm skin is different from other skin areas.

Hehehe love the video, Sam! I don't use Dove. I have tried it, but it doesn't work for me. I use a clinical deodorant, and it works beautifully for me, and doesn't leave me feeling dried out either.

Any suggestions for a really natural, ie mainly chemical-free deodorant?

Cool!! There is one theory as well related with no.2. Men shave most of their life and they get less crepey skin in those areas, their skin is smoother and younger looking then with women. So the exfoliation by shaving plays important role in skin rejuvenation and removal of old dead skin cells.

Never thought about moisturising under my arms, but have noticed that the skin does get dry there, so maybe I should try the Dove Deoderant.

I would like to suggest Schmidt's deodorant! It's all natural and so much better than these chemical-filled deodorants!

Why do we have underarm hair? Seems superfluous to me! But, yes, as we have it and need to remove it, we should look after our underarm skin! Thanks for the tips!

I knew shaving underarms irritated the skin, but that carrot pic was a good demonstration. I have used Dove deoderant in the past.
